About DankRank
DankRank came out of a simple problem I kept seeing in search: the interfaces were changing faster than the way agencies were organized to deal with them.
AI answers, organic results, Maps, paid search and recommendation systems were all influencing discovery, but the work was still being split into separate boxes with separate reports and separate priorities.
After more than 20 years working in search, I didn't want to build another agency around the old boxes and add "AI" to the service list later.
So DankRank started from the other direction.
FOUNDER JUDGMENT × TEAM EXPERTISE × AI LEVERAGE
It is the operating model behind the agency.
01
Founder / Operator
FOUNDER JUDGMENT × TEAM EXPERTISE × AI LEVERAGE
Vee Popat, founder
I'm Vee Popat
I've spent more than two decades working in SEO and about fifteen years across broader digital marketing.
That work has included organic search, paid media, content, local search, analytics, ecommerce, multi-location businesses and regulated categories where the easy marketing channels are often unavailable.
I've worked on the client side, agency side and as the person responsible for keeping clients, growing accounts and explaining why a recommendation is worth paying for.
For nearly a decade, I've also been running ColaDigital, and I still run it today. ColaDigital is an active digital marketing agency with its own work and positioning. DankRank isn't a rebrand or replacement. It's a separate agency built from the operating experience I gained there and from a specific view of where search is going now.
I care about that distinction because the tools can change without changing who is accountable for the work.
Search advice sounds different when you've had to defend it to a business owner, watch what happened after implementation and live with the result for more than one reporting cycle.
DankRank is built around that operator perspective.
02
Why Build Another Search Agency Now?
Because I think search got more interesting, not less.
People still use Google. They also ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and other AI systems questions that used to start with a search box. Maps still decides where people go. Paid search still captures intent at the moment somebody is looking. Organic pages still supply a lot of the information these systems discover, interpret and reuse.
The work overlaps more than the org charts do.
I wanted an agency where we could treat that overlap as normal instead of forcing every problem back into one channel.
AI Search, Organic Search, Local Search, Paid Search and Fractional Search Leadership sit under one search system because the decisions keep running into each other.
03
Founder-Led Doesn't Mean Founder-Only
I stay close to strategy, evidence, QA and the decisions that can materially change a search program.
That is different from pretending one person should personally do every specialist task forever.
DankRank combines founder judgment with the team expertise and AI leverage the job needs. That can mean deep analysis, content production, paid-search management or technical implementation. In other cases the first requirement is a senior person deciding what should happen before execution starts.
The operating model makes those responsibilities visible rather than hiding everything behind an account manager.
Vee, I want to thank you for following thru on all the things you said you would do.
We have used companies like yours before and it was a bust!
You have been a joy to work with. Thank you!

We Use AI. We Also Put Boundaries Around It.
AI is already part of serious search work.
We use Claude, Claude Code, OpenAI, search APIs, analytics, purpose-built agents and other tools where they help us research, compare, build, test or reduce repetitive work.
I don't believe the answer is to pretend those tools aren't being used.
I also don't believe a confident model response should get to decide which URL owns a revenue term, whether a location page deserves to exist, or whether a major budget change should go live.
That boundary is formalized in Cultivation OS.

Visible Work Beats a Polished Story
A new agency doesn't have a decade of DankRank case studies. I'm not going to borrow results from previous work, sand off the context and pretend they happened under this brand.
That distinction includes ColaDigital. The operating experience is part of my background. ColaDigital client results remain attributed to ColaDigital and to the work I delivered there. DankRank's own experiments and build records stay identified as DankRank evidence. Where historical client work appears, it is labelled separately so the source of the proof is clear.
We can show something more honest at launch: how the agency itself is being built, what the baseline looks like before visibility exists, which experiments are running, what changed, what failed and what we learned.
That's what PROOF is for.
Some of the early numbers may be zero.
Zero is still a real starting point.
Vee and his team have been instrumental in growing my conference and expanding our reach to new audiences. They were patient with my learning curve, very accessible, responsible in handling my account budget and thorough in their reporting.

06
Regulated Search Taught Me to Respect Constraints
A lot of my recent work has been in cannabis and other environments where paid advertising, platform access, compliance or local rules can limit the obvious growth routes.
You learn quickly that "publish more" and "spend more" are not strategies when those options are constrained.
You have to understand page ownership, local intent, consistent business information, search demand, conversion paths and what the business can execute.
That experience shaped DankRank, but the agency isn't limited to regulated industries.
The principle carries anywhere the search problem is more complicated than a keyword list.
07
What We Believe About Search
We publish the thinking behind the work in Methods.
You'll find arguments there that I expect to keep testing: search is one ecosystem, AI visibility should be measured before it is optimized, SEO didn't disappear because AI answers arrived, more AI content doesn't automatically create more visibility, and human judgment still has to own consequential search decisions.
Those aren't slogans we need everybody to agree with.
They're the operating assumptions we're willing to expose and test.
08
The Standard Is Evidence Before Certainty
Search has always had people selling certainty they don't control. AI search gave the industry some new vocabulary for doing the same thing.
We're careful about the difference between what we observed, what we think it means and what we can prove.
We say when a recommendation rests on a small prompt set. When a result moves after a site change and causation is unclear, we leave the uncertainty in the story instead of polishing correlation into a win. Stronger evidence gets a stronger claim.
The result is less dramatic than selling certainty we do not have, but it is a standard I can defend.
the prompt set we observed
requires different evidence
- total consumer use
- commercial decisions
- revenue
