This Is a Search Visibility Baseline, Not a 90-Page Audit PDF
Audits are often judged by how many issues they contain, which rewards the wrong behaviour.
If a crawler can find 600 warnings, it is easy to turn those warnings into a thick document. The harder job is figuring out which ones are connected to an actual visibility problem and which ones can wait.
Our AI search audit starts with the footprint, not the page count of the deliverable.
We look for the strongest evidence of where visibility is being lost, confused, under-supported or simply not measured yet.
You should come away knowing what we found, why it matters and where I would start.
- Your footprint and 2 competitors, recorded
- Anything after this, observed later
02
What the Free Visibility Baseline Covers
The exact review depends on the business, because a multi-location retailer and a B2B software company don't have the same search problem.
Where relevant, the Baseline can look at:
- AI-search visibility and brand presence
- organic visibility and page ownership
- important non-brand search demand
- local and Maps visibility
- paid-search presence and obvious message gaps
- competitor positioning
- AI citations, mentions or recommendations we can observe
- search-result composition
- content and architecture gaps
- entity or location inconsistencies
- obvious crawl or indexation concerns visible from the outside
- where measurement is missing or giving a false sense of precision
This is an external baseline. We're not pretending we can diagnose every technical issue without access to Search Console, analytics, the CMS, the ad account or the site's change history.
If deeper access is needed, we'll tell you.
03
We Compare 2 Meaningful Competitors
If you already have a primary competitor in mind, send it.
If you don't, we'll choose 2 meaningful competitors based on the search problem and what we can observe.
The useful comparison is not always the biggest brand in the category. Sometimes it is the business showing up where you aren't, the one earning AI citations, the one with a cleaner location structure or the one that seems to own a search intent you should probably be competing for.
A competitor comparison should teach us something we can act on, not just fill a slide.
04
What We Look for in AI Search
AI visibility is still easy to overstate.
We separate different observations instead of collapsing them into one magic score.
We separate brand mentions, citations and recommendations because they are different signals. We also keep the engine attached to the observation; a result in ChatGPT doesn't prove the same behaviour in Gemini, Perplexity or Google's AI experiences.
Where we can observe useful AI-search evidence, we record the engine, prompt context, date and what happened.
Where the evidence is too thin to support a conclusion, the Baseline says that too.
05
Organic Search Still Gets Checked
AI search doesn't give us a reason to ignore the site underneath it.
If important pages are difficult to discover, several URLs are fighting for the same intent, internal links are weak, the content says very little or the entity information is inconsistent, that matters before we invent a specialized AI tactic.
We look for those signals in the Baseline and send deeper organic problems to the right work.
2 meaningful competitor comparisons and the three things we'd look at first.
06
Local Search Gets Its Own Read When Geography Matters
For a location-based business, the answer can change by city, neighbourhood, proximity, hours, service area or which physical location is relevant.
That means Business Profiles, Maps, location pages, reviews and consistent business information may be more important than another national content idea.
If local search is material to the business, we include it.
07
Paid Search Can Expose Demand the Rest of the Site Missed
If paid search is visible from the outside, we can often learn something from the offer, landing pages, query themes and how the competitive set is positioning itself.
We won't pretend to audit an ad account we can't see.
Once account access exists, paid-search data can give us much better evidence about demand, conversion and the language people use when they are ready to act.
08
You Get the Three Things We'd Do First
This is the part that keeps the Baseline useful.
We don't end with a pile of observations and make you decide what matters.
The written Baseline identifies the three areas we'd investigate or act on first based on what we can actually see and verify.
They may be tactical. They may be architectural. One of them may be "don't build that page yet." Another may be "fix the measurement before you optimize against it."
If I don't think there is enough evidence to recommend something, I would rather say that than make up work to justify the audit.
the three areas we'd investigate or act on first
- They may be tactical
- They may be architectural
09
Founder-Reviewed Means I Read It
The free Baseline is not an automated score emailed straight from a tool.
AI and workflows help collect and compare evidence. I review the output, challenge the obvious conclusions and make sure the recommendations make sense together before it goes out.
If you want to see the operating controls behind that review, read Cultivation OS. If you want public examples of how we separate evidence from the sales story, use PROOF.
That review is part of the offer, not an upgrade.
- collect and compare evidence
- I review the output
- goes out

What Happens After the Baseline
There is no required next step after the Baseline.
You can take the Baseline and use it with your internal team, another agency or nobody at all.
If the next move is obvious and DankRank is a fit, we can talk about the relevant service. AI-search work goes to AI Search. Organic architecture or recovery goes to Organic Search. Location-heavy problems go to Local Search. Paid-search problems go to Paid Search. If the real issue is ownership across all of them, Fractional Search Leadership may make more sense.
There is no required sales call attached to the free review.

What We Need From You
Start with:
- your website
- your work email
If you have it, add:
- the competitor you care about most
- a short description of what the business sells and where it operates
- anything specific you're worried about
That is enough for us to start. If you leave the competitor blank, we'll choose the 2 comparison businesses.
Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this really free?
Yes. The two-competitor Visibility Baseline is free.
There is no required discovery call and no obligation to hire DankRank afterward.
How long does it take?
We deliver the written Baseline within 2 business days once we have the website and work email. If you add a competitor or business context, we'll use it; neither is required to submit.
Is this a technical SEO audit?
The free Baseline is broader than a traditional technical SEO audit.
We may flag crawl, indexation, architecture or technical concerns that are visible from the outside, but the free Baseline is built around search visibility across AI, organic, local and paid surfaces. A full technical diagnosis requires the right access and evidence.
Do you check ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity?
We check the AI answer tools that can give us useful evidence. The exact mix depends on the business and the query set.
We record what we observe rather than implying one prompt run represents the whole market.
Will you tell me my AI visibility score?
We can use a score or structured baseline when it helps organize repeatable observations, but we don't treat one number as the truth about AI visibility.
Citations, mentions, recommendations, prompt coverage, competitors and referral behaviour are different signals and should stay visible as different signals.
Can you guarantee we'll rank or get cited after the audit?
The Baseline is a diagnosis, not a ranking or citation guarantee.
The Baseline tells you what we can observe and where we'd focus next. Search engines and AI systems make their own retrieval, ranking and recommendation decisions.
